This Spells Love by Kate Robb

I picked up This Spells Love by Kate Robb because it was the romance option in my BOTM selections. There. I said it. There was nothing remarkable about this book prior to me clicking ‘add to box’ other than it looked less emotionally scaring than my other options.

Everything I felt about this book prior to opening its cover - was true after I finished the last page. This is a romance. There is nothing remarkable about it. And it was less emotionally scaring I’m sure than the other options.

Allison says that you know a book is forgettable if you can’t remember the main character’s name immediately after you finish reading it. This is 100% true for this book. Neither of the characters really stuck with me.

It’s a kind of alternate universe scenario where our heroine drunkenly performs a spell that results in her waking up in a different timeline where she never met her ex boyfriend - and consequently never met her male best friend who is - predictably - going to end up being our male romantic lead.

The only thing that really sticks out about this book for me is that has an extended scene at a curling match. A CURLING MATCH! That’s different. I mean, if at all possible I understand less about curling now then I did before I read that scene but still…points for originality.

Final Judgement: A soap bubble of a book.
