Half a Soul (Regency Faerie Tales #1) by Olivia Atwater

I had this book on my kindle for an eternity. It was recommended to me by you know who and I kept picking it up and starting it but I just couldn’t get past the first part.

It has - in my opinion - a very slow start. And the main character is almost on the spectrum with her in ability to read situations. And it’s portrayed in a way that I think is supposed to be charming but just comes off confusing. Ultimately, over the narrative, this neurodivergent behavior gets framed in a different light and goes from being off-putting to charming.

And her relationship/friendship with another very non neurotypical person becomes so charming that the book goes from being a spark, to a candle, to a firework.

I can’t 5 star it because of the slow start, but if you are looking for something a bit off the beaten path this is a great read.

Final thought: A slow build but worth it.
